How We Test Dating Apps

Hands-on testing in real cities, with a transparent methodology. No paid rankings. No referral kickbacks tied to position.

Our testing process

For every major dating app, we run identical real-user profiles in four US metros (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin) for at least 30 days each. Two test profiles per app: one male, age 28; one female, age 32. Same photo set, same bio length, same swipe pattern.

During each test we track:

How we rank

We rank apps by use-case fit, not by a single overall score. The "best app for serious relationships" is a different ranking than "best app for under-30 casual dating." We publish both verdicts explicitly.

Rankings are based on our measured data combined with publicly-available research and user reports. They are not influenced by advertising relationships or affiliate payouts.

How we make money

Some links on this site are affiliate links. When a reader signs up for a paid tier through one of those links, we may receive a commission. That revenue keeps the site running.

The affiliate relationship never influences our ranking. Every app is tested the same way, and the order reflects our measured data — not which company pays the highest commission. Some of the apps we rank highly pay us nothing.

What we don't do

Updates and corrections

App features, pricing, and policies change. We re-test the major apps every quarter and update rankings accordingly. Reviewed-by dates on each page show when content was last verified.

Found an error? Send corrections to the contact link in the footer. We update verified corrections within 7 days.
